Episode 1

My name is Valsa and I'm a self-confessed television junkie.

A moment ago I was struck with disbelief — I got a call from the producers of Channel V's 'Get Gorgeous IV'. They want me to get behind-the-scenes of this season's show… and write a blog about it!

Thousands of girls auditioned in Pune, Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai with the hope of being named "The Next Hottest Face". The ten girls who survive the auditions and make the cut will be going down to Goa for modelling boot camp.

And I'm going with them.

Like a lot of you, I too have wondered how a show like this gets made. How much of it is real? How much is contrived? Do the cameras ever go off, or do they actually manage to film all the interesting little things that go bump in the night?

This is my chance to find out.

I've always thought Get Gorgeous was a cool show. Remember how the first season had four winners instead of one? It's fun to watch the girls transform themselves with expert help and gain confidence. Some of them use advice from the judges to edge their way to the front of the pack, but the really juicy stuff happens when they think can get ahead with their catfights and complaining.

Whatever the strategy, the fact is that the girls' fate depends on the judges. For the first time, this year's Get Gorgeous will have eight judges. The line-up includes the likes of Samantha Kocchar, Alison Kanuga and Shantanu & Nikhil. I don't generally swoon over models but I must say, I wish they would bring back the gorgeous Milind Soman from seasons 1 and 2. I just can't seem to get rid of the crush I've had on him since I was 12!

So if you've read this far, you’re probably wondering, Who is this Valsa character and why is she the blogger? Well, I've lived in Mumbai my whole life, I'm 23 years old and yes, I've always loved watching TV. I think the sitcoms, funnies, and dramas like "CSI" and "Law & Order" are really great but I find reality shows especially fun to watch. I can't help but be amused as the relentless camera forces people to shed their inhibitions and pretences in front of the whole world.

But watching TV isn't all I do. I also love to write. I like to read, sketch, listen to music, write poetry and watch movies every chance I get. I really like to dance and I'm especially proud of the fact that I can successful do the Shakira hip-wiggle. I love spicy food and I carry my bottle of Tabasco in my bag with me at all times (in case of emergency – bland baguettes kill me).

But enough about me. I've got barely 18 hours left to book a flight ticket, shop for essentials, get a hold of a laptop, have a haircut, grab dinner with my boyfriend, pack for my ten days in Goa and hopefully get a couple of hours of sleep as well.

Oooh, but before all of that, as my first bit of "research" for this project, I’m going to Google the resort we're staying at — Swaswara. Maybe they have pictures of the rooms on the web? Hold on, I'm checking…

Wow! The place looks awesome. Their site says they're all about "self-discovery and rejuvenation." The ocean is just five minutes away, but for the lazy and tired they also have a pool. I can already feel the wind caressing my hair as I float around in the pool, sipping a glass of wine.

I hope that down in Goa I'll really be able to get the skinny on these models. Did I mention that? I'm going to be living among the models! And I'm going to shoot some of my own video, too. My goal: to ask all the questions you would if you were on the set, find out who these girls really are and what this competition is all about.

Then I'm going to bring it to you, warts and all.

I've done some hunting around and I don't think any reality TV shows in India have ever allowed an embedded blogger into their production before. It's a great opportunity for me. And, hey, we could be making reality TV history!

So find your way back to read my blog each week — I'm sure I'll be doubled over with laughter while writing it and in all likelihood, I'll have you doing the same. I'll be posting my diary entries on Tuesdays so you can read my weekly inside scoop before the new episodes of the show run on Thursday nights.

Next week — I'll be spilling some dirt on the audition process and what the contestants wrote in the applications to try to make it onto the show!

  9. HI
I JUST LOVE GG4. IT IS MUCH BETTER THAN PREVIOUS THREE SHOWS. I JUST LOVE NIDHI, RACHAEL & ARLETTE. ARIKA IS LITTLE IRRITATING AND IS VERY UNSECURE OF HERSELF. SHE HAS THAT "OH! I AM SO SWEET"ATTITUDE. I LIKED MIZPAH VERY MUCH & WAS VERY SHOCKED TO SEE HER LEAVING THE SHOW VERY EARLY. I AM RELIEVED THAT KIRTANA IS OUT OF THE SHOW SIMPLY BECOZ SHE WAS ALWAYS SICK AND AT THE LAST MOMENT SHE WAS BEING A TOUGH COMPETITION TO EVERYBODY. I REALLY LOVE REBECCA'S GOLDEN LOCKS. ITS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS ON T.V. & ONE OF THE BEST PLATFORMS FOR THE PROSPETIVE MODELS OF OUR COUNTRIES.

  10. Hi Valsa, your Blog really proves to be an interesting read considering i've been watching GG4 from Day 1. Well you're an amazing writer; keep up the good work!
My fav contestant has always been ARIKA for her simplicity and charming demeanour. A little more effort on her part and she could do wonders.
    Update soon!
